The school stands alone
huts surrounding it…
The villages are far away,
Surrounded by the jungle.
Birds chirp, monkeys chatter,
Boys and girls, laughing aloud,
Classes in session,
School about to end.
Boom! The earth shatters
With the sound of mortar.
Camouflaged men appear…
Darkened faces, fearsome eyes.
Sound of gunfire,
Yells of fury,
Panic in the eyes,
Boys and girls, and adults.
Refugees in the hall,
Ears shut off from terror.
