Lines written on…

A Hilltop on Zhug-Thri where Longchen Rabjam
meditated. He is immortalized by his image,
a statue on the hilltop.
Feeling pious,
feeling religious,
feeling happy.

My Place of Happiness

Nestling on the lap of a mountain,
a small cottage with blue curtains,
a bamboo fence around it,
a small hinged gate that creaks
every time I open it.

Of Fire-Blessings and Naked-Dances

Jambay lhakhang, located in Bumthang observes its festival for five consecutive days. This festival is called Jambay Lhakhang Drup.

Jambay Lhakhang being one of the oldest temples in Bhutan holds many ancient relics such as Jowo Jampa (Maitreya) from whose name the present name of the temple is derived, more than one hundred statues of the gods of Kalachakra built by the first king, in 1887.

Soccer Monks of Bumthang

These days there is a veteran’s football tournament organized by Jakar high school for those soccer enthusiasts of 30 years and above. Me and my colleagues from school have formed a team and under the banner of “Jakar FC” we are participating (the tournament is still going on).

And I was surprised to see a couple of monks playing in certain teams. I know that the monks of Kharchu Dratsang do play soccer, because on some weekends they come to my school to play on our ground. But I thought of them to be just novice players. I didn’t expect them to play so well (so stereotyping of me). But in these past matches I watched and played I saw three distinctive soccer monks.

Chorten Kora...the Start

It is on a Saturday evening during rounds of arra that we decide to visit Chorten Kora. I have been there many times but my friends haven't. So we make plans for the next day.

The next morning as I wake up at 8, I can smell delicious aroma from the kitchen. Serious must have already prepared tea as he is almost dressed up.

One-Ness

There comes a time… when we heed a certain call when (Bhutan) must come together as one…

I used to remember these lyrics and sing it. My Value Education teacher used to make us sing to it in the class. He'd drum away on his guitar and we would bang the desks, shouting at the top of our voice. Of course we were in class VI. And he was our Principal.
