December 17, 2003: Phu-Kaaptong

Thunders crack open the sky,
Lightning streak the horizon,
Rains splatter upon the ruins

Two days ago, life flourished here.
Kids and mothers and fathers
Lived a life of peace.

Schools, gardens and offices,
A volleyball court for leisure,
Kitchen, dining room, store room.

No cause for worry,
No cause for pain,
This place was theirs for long.

Thunders cracked yesterday,
Fireballs erupted and burned,
Bullets rained and rained.

Stale humid corpses,
Charred tree stumps,
Bullet casings in the mud.
